ACADEMIC PROGRAMS

Wayne State University is the major urban university in Michigan located in the heart of Detroit's University Cultural Center. Consistent with its urban mission, the University utilizes the city's vast social, cultural and scientific resources to enrich its educational programs and to stimulate research. It is a Carnegie Research University I and a Holmes Group member. The College of Education is one of 14 schools and colleges at Wayne State University. It currently enrolls over 1,400 undergraduate and 2,400 graduate students in 34 different programs.

The Division of Kinesiology, Health and Sport Studies (KHS), as one of four academic divisions of the College of Education and as an integral part of a general education, focuses particular attention upon the vital needs of people to acquire attitudes, knowledge and skills necessary for regular participation in healthful living and physical and leisure-time activities. Accordingly, it offers courses of instruction in Health Education, Exercise Science, Kinesiology, and Sports Administration for the general student body and provides professional curricula at the undergraduate and graduate levels for those students seeking careers in these areas. Moreover, a program in driver education is offered. Many of the KHS course offerings may also be used to meet degree and curricular requirements of other schools and colleges of the University.
