Undergraduate Curricular Track Options in Kinesiology


Introduction:

The professional preparation program in Kinesiology leading to a Bachelor of Science degree requires a minimum of 124 credit hours and is divided into three general areas of the study:

      • General Education

      • Kinesiology

      • Professional Education


Track Options:

The professional preparation in physical education offers two Curricular Tracks:

This course of study is designed for students who plan to teach physical education. Students who complete all track requirements are certified to teach physical education at both the elementary and secondary levels.

This course of study is designed to provide self-directed students with a specialized background for graduate-level study and professional work in the field of exercise science. This track is basic to careers in such fields as adult fitness, corporate fitness, exercise physiology, athletic training, cardiac rehabilitation; and it is prerequisite to the necessary post-graduate study or additional certification requirements of the field.

 


Admission:

Students entering from high school are admitted directly into the College of Education and take general education courses concurrently with physical education courses. Student transferring from other universities or from other colleges within Wayne State University must have a minimum overall honor point average of 2.5 and must have satisfactorily completed the university's English and Math Proficiency Examinations prior to applying for admission.
