Introduction:
The professional preparation in Health
Education leading to a Master of Education degree requires
a minimum of 36 credit hours and is divided into three general
areas of study:
Specialization Courses ........................(22-27

General Professional Courses ..............(6
hours)
Elective Courses ..................................(3-8
hours)
As a culmination experience, students
must elect a thesis or project option. This experience is included
within the "Specialization Courses" credit hour requirement.
Program Focus:
The goal of health education is to facilitate
voluntary health-related behavior and social change through application
of principles of the behavioral and social sciences. As such,
health education is concerned with helping individuals and groups
to assume responsibility for their health by learning and adopting
behaviors, and by supporting social policies that can promote
and maintain health. To this end, those earning a Master of Education
in Health Education develop competencies in the following areas:
assessing individual and group needs for health education; planning,
implementing, and evaluating effective health education programs;
coordination provisions for health education; acting as a resource
person in health education; and communicating health and health
education needs, concerns and resources.
Admission:
Students are admitted "Regular Status" into the
Health Education Program with an appropriate background and an
undergraduate grade point average of at least 3.0.
